Electronic voting machines or EVMs were used in Mymensingh City Corporation's maiden elections held on Sunday, reports bdnews24.com.
About 300,000 voters were expected to cast their votes in the election.
The balloting was held only to elect councillors as Awami League leader Ekramul Hoque Titu had earlier been elected mayor uncontested on April 17.
EVMs were used in all 127 polling booths in the MCC elections. Polling started at 8am and continued till 4pm without any break.
Election officials said even though some people had trouble understanding how to use the EVMs, voting was carried out peacefully.
"The voters are casting their ballots in a festive atmosphere. They do not have much idea about the EVMs but still they are voting peacefully," said Ward Councillor candidate Faruk Hasan.
There were 33 general councillor posts and 11 seats were reserved for women.
A total of 70 people contested for the reserved councillor posts. And 242 candidates fought for the general ward councillor posts.
