Nagorik Committee demands home adviser's resignation

The Jatiya Nagorik Committee has demanded that Home Advisor Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury apologise and resign following the attack on students at the home of former Liberation War affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur, reports bdnews24.com.

The activists also demanded the resignations of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police commissioner and the district's deputy commissioner.

Ali Naser Khan, a central organiser for the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, made the demand on Saturday from the city's Bhawal Rajbari field at a rally organised by the organisation's Gazipur district and metropolitan wings.

Those involved in the attack on students and the public at Mozammel's home on Friday night must be arrested quickly and handed exemplary punishments after swift trials, Ali said.

The Jatiya Nagorik Committee leader claimed that despite informing police and the local administration of the attack, they were late in reaching the scene.

He gave a 24-hour deadline to arrest those involved in the attack and bring them to justice.

The rally was attended by members of different student and social organisations as well as members of the general public. They held a protest march in the city in the afternoon.
