NARSINGDI, Nov 17 (UNB): State Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Nazrul Islam on Saturday denied any involvement of the ruling Awami League in the clashes that left five people killed and wounded 100 others over establishing supremacy in Nilakkha and Bashgari areas of Raipura upazila.

Talking to the reporters at a press conference at district unit office of the party, Nazrul Islam said, "Awami League has no involvement in the incidents of Raipura."

The clash was a sequel of previous enmity between the locals over establishing supremacy in the area, he said.

"Legal actions will be taken if anyone from Awami League is found involved with the incident," he warned.

Earlier on Friday, a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee was shot dead during a clash reportedly between two factions of Awami League at Bashgari in the upazila.

Later in the day, four others were also killed and 100 were injured in sporadic clashes allegedly between two factions of Awami League over establishing supremacy in Nilakkha union of Raipura upazila in the district.
