The newly elected committee of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement was formally announced on Tuesday.
A press conference, held at Central Shaheed Minar for the announcement, revolved around some key demands, including the July proclamation and July Charter, both of which are aimed at reforming the state structure and ensuring justice in a new Bangladesh reborn after the July-August mass uprising in 2024.
Newly elected President Rifat Rashid, General Secretary Md. Inamul Jasan, Organising Secretary Muinul Islam, and Spokesperson Synthia Jaheen Ayesha were present at the conference.
Rifat Rashid said the anti-discrimination student uprising of July-August 2024 has added a new dimension to Bangladesh's political history.
"The single demand declared at the Shaheed Minar on August 3 was not merely about changing a regime, it was a commitment to abolish fascist rule and build a truly democratic state. We believe this uprising has laid the historical foundation for 'Bangladesh 2.0'", he added.
However, he warned that attempts are now being made to assimilate this historical achievement into the old system under the pretext of constitutional continuity. "The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement rejects this process. We will continue our struggle to ensure a new constitution and a sovereign democratic order," he asserted.
