Jubo League leader

held in Bogura

Police in a drive arrested a district Jubo League leader from his residence at Belgium Math of Latifpur Colony in the city on Saturday. "Engineer Khairul Alam alias Lakhin, an active member of the Jubo league district unit, was arrested from his own residence today," said SM Mainuddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar Police Station. Acting on a tip-off, the police team arrested Khairul, also a central committee president of Bangladesh Human Rights Association, after carrying out an operation at his residence in the area. He will be sent to the court after reviewing cases filed against him. — BSS

Ex-panel mayor of KCC Rafique held

KHULNA, Nov 30: Police arrested ex-panel Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) S M Rafiuddin Ahmed Rafique from city's East Baniakhamar Main Road area on Saturday evening. Rafique, elder brother of ex-Army Chief Lieutenant General (Retd) S M Shafiuddin Ahmed, was the Councillor of number -27 ward of KCC, Deputy Police Commissioner of KMP Detective Branch (DB) Md Tazul Islam confirmed. Talking to the news agency, Tazul Islam said, Rafique, an alleged criminal was wanted in a mass killing case lodged with the International Crime Tribunal. Besides, he was also wanted in several criminal charges, filed at the Khalishpur police station on august 30. —BSS

KHULNA, Nov 30: Batiaghata upazila Freedom Fighters on Friday recalled the heroic memories of two Liberation War heroes of the area in a befitting manner. Jyotish Mondal of Sundarmahal village under Surkhali Union of the upazila and Abdul Aziz of Moukhali village under Chandkhali Union of Paikgachha upazila of the district joined the Liberation War at the very beginning of the war and embraced martyrdom during a fierce battle at Baroaria Bazaar of the area on this day ( November 29) in 1971. Marking the 54th martyrdom anniversary of the two valiant freedom fighters, the local Muktijoddha chalked out different programmes. — BSS
