Next election should be held under PR system: Parwar

NARAIL, Aug 16 (BSS): Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Prof Mia Golam Parwar has called on the government to hold the next general election under a Proportional Representation (PR) system, describing it as the most acceptable and neutral among the exiting electoral systems in the present world.

This system will help curb influence of black-money, reduce the dominance of muscle power in politics and put an end to nomination trade during elections," he said.

The Jamaat leader made the remarks while talking to journalists after inaugurating a workshop on 'Leadership Training' organised by the party at the District Council auditorium on Saturday.

He further stressed that under the system every vote would be properly evaluated, ensuring the formation of an accountable and transparent parliament.

Giving details, Golam Parwar noted that 91 countries across the world have already adopted PR electoral system.

"The demand for PR System is not new. Jamaat former leaders had earlier proposed two systems for enduring polls -- a caretaker government and the PR system," he said expressing the hope that the next election would be held under PR electoral system.
