BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election polls will provide an opportunity to ensure justice for the July-August genocide and to boycott those who collaborated in the 1971 liberation war atrocities, report agencies.
Mirza Fakhrul said the two genocides took place in this country -- one in 1971 and the other during the July-August mass uprising in 2024.
"Both are terrible crimes. The trial of those involved in the August 5 mass uprising genocide, including the dictator, is currently underway. We hope we will get justice. Similarly, in the next election, we will also boycott those, who aided the occupying Pakistani forces in the 1971 genocide," he said.
The BNP secretary general made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting held at Daulatpur Girls' High School ground in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on Sunday.
He said one party is claiming that a referendum should be held before the elections but BNP is saying that if a referendum has to be held, it can be held on the polls day.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has held a BNP leaders and discussed various issues, including reforms in the financial and social sectors.
