DUCSU assistant general secretary (AGS) Saddam Hossain on Tuesday ruled out any irregularities in the process of enrollment of 34 BCL leaders in Dhaka University (DU) courses.

Saddam Hossain, also the general secretary of DU Chhatra League (BCL) unit, dismissed the allegation of irregularities at a press conference at the DUCSU seminar room on the university campus.

Although the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) organised the press conference, its vice president (VP) Nurul Huq Nur was not present there.

When asked about Nur, Saddam said, "Nur does not work for the DUCSU; his interest was only to pursue personal agendas."

Saddam accused that Nur frequently remained absent in such meetings although he got informed beforehand.

When contacted, Nur said, "They are liars. I did not attend the press conference on the grounds of ethics. At the DUCSU platform, they cannot speak in favour of fraud and controversial students. How can I join the press conference?"

He also said all the 34 former and present BCL leaders got admitted to the Faculty of Business Studies of DU illegally.

"I want their studentship to be cancelled. I also want Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman and Business Faculty Dean Prof Shibly Rubayat Ul Islam to resign over the cheating," he added.

At the press conference, Saddam also said, "We will discuss whether Golam Rabbani can serve as DUCSU general secretary after resigning from his BCL post. The decision will be taken as per the DUCSU constitution."

Only the DUCSU leaders aligned with BCL were present at the press conference. Of the 25 DUCSU members, 23 are nominated by the BCL.

Of the 34 BCL leaders, seven were elected to DUCSU. They are science and technology affairs secretary Arif Ibne Ali, liberation war affairs secretary Saad Bin Kader, sports secretary Shakil Ahmed Tanvir and members Nazrul Islam, Rakibul Hasan, Nipu Islam Tonni and Mahmudul Hasan.

There is an allegation that all of them got enrolled in the Banking and Insurance Department course at Master's level without any admission test at the recommendations of the VC and the Business Faculty dean.
