Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarker has said there is no scope to challenge the final decision on constituency delimitations in court or before any other authority.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday at the Election Commission (EC) headquarters in the capital's Agargaon, he added, "The Commission has completed the delimitation process with utmost caution, prudence, and neutrality. It was carried out based on administrative integrity, geographical location, the latest census, and voter numbers."
"After reviewing objections and demands, the final list was verified before publication. There is no scope to lodge complaints about it in court or elsewhere," he said.
The EC recently released the final list of 300 constituencies, bringing changes to about 50 seats compared to the 2023 list. Notable adjustments include the addition of one constituency in Gazipur and the subtraction of one in Bagerhat.
The election commissioner highlighted that the delimitation work was conducted impartially, in accordance with legal requirements.
He noted that the EC reviewed updated voter data as of June 16, analysing figures across 64 districts to identify any imbalances in voter distribution. A draft was prepared and finalised after considering claims and objections.
Responding to a question about the electoral environment, he says conditions are favourable for holding national elections.
On the registration of political parties, the election commissioner added that almost all reports have been received by the EC. "A final decision is expected within a week, after which there will be a provision for raising objections regarding party names. The process is expected to conclude within the month."
