There is no scope to postpone the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election scheduled to be held in early February next, said Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, report agencies.

"According to the government's declaration, the national election will be held by February. We are determined to hold it on that day. The Election Commission has been instructed accordingly and necessary preparations are underway," he told reporters at the Secretariat in the capital on Monday.

When asked about several political parties, including the National Citizen Party (NCP), seeking electoral reforms and justice ahead of the election, the adviser said, "We trust the 'political judgment' of the July uprising allies. There have been disagreements on various issues in the past and those were resolved. Differences of opinion may arise on various matters, yet we are confident that unity will prevail."

He also dismissed the possibility of the formation of a caretaker government, saying, "There is no discussion on forming an election-time government."

Responding to another question, the adviser said, "The government's stance has been clear and consistent. We are fully committed to holding the election in February. All state activities are being aligned with that goal. There is no room for delay."

About the law and order situation, Asif Nazrul said, "The law and order situation has deteriorated intermittently over the past year, but it has been good at times as well. While it may be unfortunate or frustrating, I do not consider it abnormal. We've faced similar situations before and overcome them. Insha'Allah, we will do so again."
