Awami League (AL) said Jatiya Oikya Front is making a farce with the nation by announcing to include continuation of trial for war criminals in its election manifesto, report agencies.

AL joint general secretary Abdur Rahman came up with the remarks at a press briefing at the party President's Dhanmondi political office in the city on Monday.

Oikya Front rolled out its 14-point election manifesto with various promises, including ensuring the continuation of the trial for war criminals and carrying out investigations into the corruption incidents that took place under the current government and will bring those responsible for graft to justice.

Abdur Rahman said, "They've paved the way for more than 23 successors of war criminals to participate in the election under the symbol of Sheaf of Paddy as war criminals have been sheltered by the Dr Kamal-led alliance. So, when they say they'll continue the trial of war criminals, it's not only a matter of joke but also an inconceivable thing."

"Who has given shelter to the war criminals and nominated them? How will they stand against these war criminals? So, it's nothing but fudge," Rahman said.

The AL leader also claimed Oikya Front is misleading the nation through a confusing manifesto to attract the voters.

Meanwhile, AL general secretary Obaidul Quader said BNP, combined with communal political party Jamaat-e-Islami, is hatching conspiracies to make the country like Pakistan ahead of the 11th parliamentary election.

"BNP doesn't want democracy. They are leading the defeated forces of the Liberation War and trying to make the country like Pakistan. Actually, they are supporting militancy, not democracy," he said.

The AL leader made the comments while speaking at a reception at Basurhat High School ground in Companiganj upazila.

Upazila Administration organised the reception accorded to freedom fighters with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Faisal Ahmed in the chair.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said, "There is a mass wave in favour of 'Boat', the electoral symbol of AL. Now they (BNP) are trying to foil the polls in fear of defeat in the polls. We will resist the ill evil forces. We will foil their ill attempts."
