Over 3.3m cases pending with courts: Law minister

A total of 3.3 million cases are now pending with the higher courts and lower courts across the country according to a statistics placed by Law Minister Anisul Huq in Parliament on Tuesday, reports UNB.
Of these, 28.16 lakh cases are pending with the lower courts, while 4.76 lakh with the High Court Division and 16,565 with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, he said replying to an unstarred question from independent MP Rustum Ali Faraji (Pirojpur-3).
Some 8.93 lakh cases -- 6.01 lakh with lower courts and 2.92 lakh with the higher courts - have emained pending for at least five years.
By their types, 18.40 lakh are criminal cases, 13.84 lakh are civil cases and 85,941 others are writ petitions.
In reply to a starred question from another independent MP Abdul Matin (Maulvibazar-2), the Law Minister said fraud syndicates those furnish fake arrest warrants and fake cases have been curbed to a large extent largely declined due to different steps taken by the government.
Anisul Huq said the government takes action against those who are involved in entrapping people with fake arrest warrants and fake cases following investigation.
