People awakening to defend country's independence

Says Rizvi

FE REPORT | December 05, 2024 00:00:00

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Wednesday that the people of Bangladesh are awakening to defend their beloved country's independence and sovereignty.

"We the Hindus and Muslims born here (Bangladesh) are the sons of this soil. This is the birthplace of all of us," he said at a rally protesting against recent attack on Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Tripura, India, organised by Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Front in front of the National Press Club.

"Why do they want to sell this country to others? If Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah, Mohon Lal fought together for defending the country then in the same way we the Muslims and Hindus (born in Bangladesh) would fight together for protecting and defending our country. We would prevent Delhi's slavery," he said.

"The government of BJP in India came to power capitalising orthodox Hinduism. They don't have capital other than this (Hinduism). So to remain in power they started a campaign of hatred and jealousy, because without these Narendra Modi couldn't hold on to power," he said.

He said that extremism of any ideology always goes against humanity.

He lamented the comments made by Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee against Bangladesh.

Mr Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that 25 percent people of West Bengal are Muslims whereas they get only one percent government jobs.

"So Mamata Banerjee is never a humanist and secular," he alleged.

"The people who are doing Islamic politics here in Bangladesh never utter any communal words. They don't talk about attacking other people's faiths. And it is our tradition," he asserted.

"Those who we are here (at the rally) are the heirs of Siraj Ud Dollah, Mohon Lal and Mir Modon. So we would fight collectively against Indian aggression as it relates with our tradition. You (India) lowered and dishonored our (Bangladesh) flag which was a great blow on us and we would never forget this," he reminded.

Criticising Indian media for spreading propaganda constantly against Bangladesh, he said, "Mr Shovon, a media personality of India, has engaged in spreading baseless propaganda against Bangladesh. I considered him a gentleman but his mind is so ugly. You (Shovon) have broadcasted that five people were burned to death alive. Who killed five persons in Gopalganj? What a big false propaganda (against Bangladesh)?".

"India claims itself as a secular country. Today their media started spreading propaganda against Bangladesh," he said.

He said that a white paper report reveals siphoning off Tk28 trillion abroad.

He said that Bangladeshi people knew the persons who got the shares of that money and they (people) may disclose their names one day.

Mentioning that the people of Bangladesh are committed to defending their country's independence and sovereignty, he said, "We (Bangladesh) respect every country's independence and sovereignty irrespective of their sizes. If the Indian ruling dispensation thinks that they would capture Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan through aggression then they are living in fool's paradise," he reminded.

"India never realises the intrinsic spirit and strength of Bangladeshi people to defend their own country. If you (India) have that intension, then we (Bangladesh) might claim to get back our previous Nawab's ruled areas ( Bangla, Bihar, Odisha) if you (India) continue to play your aggressive role one after another," he said.
