August 27, 2019 00:00:00

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said on Monday the countrymen have overthrown BNP from politics by showing red card to the party, reports BSS.

"BNP killed people throwing petrol bombs and confined them (countrymen) for long in the name of movement . . . the common people have already overthrown BNP from politics," he said.

The minister made the comments while talking to reporters after a meeting at the information ministry at Secretariat.

Earlier, the newly-elected executive committee members of Bangladesh Chalachithra Sangbadik Samity (BCSS) met the minister. Dr Hasan said BNP is now out of field as the people showed them red card.

"How a party can show red card to the running government from outside of field?" he asked.

Replying to a question on Rohingya issue, the minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave shelter to the Rohingyas on humanitarian ground.

So, the government can't force them to go back their country Myanmar, he added.

He said Myanmar government should have brought back the confidence among the Rohingyas.

"The Bangladesh government is pursuing diplomatic efforts and the international communities are keeping pressure on Myanmar continuously in this regard," the minister added.

But, a few NGOs (non-government organisations) are instigating Rohingyas to stay here as those NGOs get fund, Dr Hasan said.

On the other hand, the Rohingyas are involved in various crimes, he added.

Dr Hasan said the government of Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken different initiatives to bring back the golden days of film industry and to explore it as well. Bangabandhu Film City has been constructed at Gazipur and a project worth around Tk 35 million has been taken to construct multipurpose building at FDC, he said.

The minister said the government is talking with different stakeholders as the cinema hall owners could take loan from banks to reopen their halls.

Besides, the ministry has proposed construction of a hall in every Tathya Bhaban

(information building) which will be built at district levels.

Additional Secretary of the ministry Md Azharul Haque, BCSS president Falguni Hamid and general secretary Kamruzzaman Babu, among others, were present at the meeting.
