Police attack suspect dies in M'singh 'shootout'

A suspect in the case for a knife attack on police has been killed in a reported shootout in Mymensingh Sadar upazila, reports bdnews24.com.

The incident occurred on the Shaikh Siraj Road in Shantuganj area, said Ashiqur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Detective Branch of Police, Mymensingh.

The deceased was identified as Ujjal Mia (28).

On March 27, Ujjal attacked police Sub-inspector Asaduzzaman with a knife in the Old Jail area of Gauripur upazila, police said. A case has been filed over the incident.

Detective Branch of police conducted an operation on Shaikh Siraj Road to arrest Ujjal based on a tip-off, said OC Rahman.

"Ujjal, a drug dealer, and his accomplices noticed the police team and opened fire. Police returned fire and Ujjal was killed on the spot.
