February 05, 2018 00:00:00

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told Parliament on Sunday that the government is taking steps to bring the attackers of police van under legal actions through a proper investigation, reports UNB.

BNP activists recently attacked a prison van and snatched two detained fellowmen from it near the High Court area of the capital.

Three policemen were also injured as they swooped on the law enforcers guarding the vehicle with sticks.

The home minister said the attack was carried out from the convoy of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia who was crossing the area on the way to her Gulshan home from a court in Bakshibazar.

"We've the video footage. We're identifying them (attackers)," he said during a question-answer session in the House.

"It was a sudden attack on police. They broke two rifles and vandalised a prison van," the minister added.

Asaduzzaman said the government will bring the attackers under legal steps and they are working towards that.

Responding to a question from M Mamunur Rashid Kiron (Noakhali-3), the minister said the government has taken initiatives to build barbed-wire fences along 271 kms road from Shahporir Dwip on Bangladesh-Myanmar border to halt intrusion and drug smuggling.
