Poll observer initially approved by EC has 'AL link'

GAIBANDHA, Oct 27: Election Commission (EC) granted primary registration to 73 organisations as election observers for the upcoming election on September 27. Among them, two are based in Gaibandha.

They are Gano Unnayan Kendra (GUK) located in Nasratpur of Gaibandha Sadar upazila and DRS situated in Komorpur along the Gaibandha-Palashbari road in the same upazila.

During a visit, the FE correspondent found that GUK, led by M Abdus Salam, was established on January 1, 1985 and that the officers and employees of the organization have no political affiliation.

On the other hand, the executive head of the SDRS organisation, Golam Mostafa began working on legal aid and handicraft programmes in 2003.

According to the organisation's official Facebook page, many Awami League (AL) leaders attended various programmes organised by SDRS.

When asked about participaition of AL's leaders in those events, Golam Mostafa said as a social welfare organisations, many important individuals attend its programmes and this will not affect its neutrality in election observation.
