Polls date will be revealed in a few days : Asif Nazrul

As political pressure builds on the interim government to announce a timeline for national polls, Law Advisor Asif Nazrul has said the date for the general election will be revealed in a few days, reports bdnews24.com.

"The chief advisor tells us this regularly," Nazrul told a a press briefing at the Secretariat in the capital on Thursday.

He discussed ongoing legal reforms. "The government intends to hold the best election in Bangladesh's history."

Nazrul also claimed the administration had spared no effort to ensure the election moves forward as planned.

The interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, had earlier indicated that the polls would take place in early February, ahead of Ramadan. However, major political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, have been demanding a firm date.

On July 26, during the third round of political dialogue following the Milestone School and College jet crash, Yunus reportedly assured party leaders that the election date would be announced within four to five days.

That pledge was later reiterated by Mostafa Jamal Haider, chairman of the Kazi Zafar-led faction of the Jatiya Party.
