‘Process underway to remove SPs on duty during 2018 election’

The government has taken steps to remove superintendents of police (SPs) who were in charge during the 2018 general election, Religious Affairs Adviser A F M Khalid Hossain said on Saturday, reports UNB.

As part of the process, some SPs are being made officers on special duty (OSD) or sent into compulsory retirement, similar to measures taken against deputy commissioners (DCs) who oversaw the election, he said.

The adviser came up with the information while speaking at the inauguration of a model mosque in Bagatipara upazila of Natore district.

The government is sincerely working to establish good governance in the country, he said.

When the interim government took office, the police administration was in a state of disarray, he added.

"Through government's efforts, confidence has been restored in the police, leading to an improvement in law and order," he said.

Besides, action is being taken against the syndicate charging excessive fares from Umrah pilgrims during Ramadan, he added. Natore Deputy Commissioner Asma Shaheen, Project Director Fardous Ur Rahman and other officials were present at the event.
