Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader called upon BNP on Thursday not to drag the matters of court into the political field to mislead the people over the verdict in the graft case against Khaleda Zia, reports BSS.
"The court has convicted Begum Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. But BNP leaders are out to bring the court matters into the political field by spreading falsehood to mislead the people," he told an extended meeting of Dhaka city north Awami League at a convention centre in the city's Dhanmondi.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the incumbent government believes in the independence of judiciary.
He blamed BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for making baseless allegations over the judiciary.
The minister said the Feni court verdict in the Ekram murder case has again proved the intendance of judiciary.
Quader urged BNP not to pollute the country's political atmosphere by making baseless allegations over the court verdicts.
"Awami League did never come in power by using guns. The country's people are our source of power," he said, expressing his optimism that Awami League will again be voted to power in the next general election.
The AL general secretary called upon the party leaders and workers to showcase the development activities during the tenure of the AL-led government before the people.
Quader urged the party men to try to attract the new voters, including women, so that they cast their votes in favour of Awami League. The new voters will play a decisive role in the next parliament election, he added.
