RAB arrest seven for stealing, snatching mobile phone sets

FE REPORT | June 25, 2022 00:00:00

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested seven persons allegedly involved with stealing and snatching of mobile phones.

The elite force arrested them during separate raids in the Banani area in the capital and Siddhirganj area in Narayanganj district on Thursday.

They also recovered 65 Tabs, 1,332 mobile phone sets, six SIM cards and Tk 20,210 from the arrestees.

Commander of RAB-3 Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed disclosed the development to the media at Karwan Bazar RAB Media Centre in the capital.

He said the arrestees were the members of an organised criminal gang and they used to steal and snatch mobile phones and sold those at higher prices by changing International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI).

The arrestees are Abul Hossain (28), Nazrul Islam (46), Tajuddin Ahmed (48), Mainuddin (30), Sujan Mia (23), Md Manik (30) and Liton Mia (40).

The RAB official said IMEI is a 15-digit number that kept with mobile phone sets while manufacturing.

He said that through this number stolen mobile phone could be traced out. Besides, this IMEI number also helps to know the factory where mobile sets were manufactured and which areas the set (mobile phone) could be used.
