A railway workers' group formed a human chain at Kamalapur Railway Station on Sunday demanding justice for the attack on two railway employees at Baradkundu, Cumilla.
The group, 'Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Railway Sramik and Employees Dal', also demanded safety at work.
Imrul Qaes Palashi, assistant general secretary of Railway Sramik Dal and also convener of Dhaka city Sramik Dal, said, "Local auto-rickshaw drivers at Baradkundu, Cumilla section, carried out attacks on railway gatemen Nazmul Hossain and Jalaluddin while they were on duty at gate No. 1 on March 1, 2025."
He said, "The attack proved that the lives of railway employees, especially gatemen, are at stake."
"None came to help railway gatemen when they were attacked," he also said, adding that proper security is not ensured for the gatemen.
Emphasising that railway workers and gatemen carry out their daily duties with severe risks, he said if the attackers are not arrested and punished, the perpetrators will carry out similar attacks in the future.
The leader also demanded immediate arrests of the people who were involved in the attack.
Ahmadur Rahman Titu, youth affairs secretary of Railway Sramik Dal, Mizanur Rahman, office secretary, were present, among others.
