CHATTOGRAM, Mar 21: The authorities of Chittagong University (CU) have formed a five-member committee today to review the rules and regulations for holding the upcoming elections to the Chittagong University Central Students Union (CUCSU).

The review committee was formed at a meeting of the provost committee and proctorial body, held at the vice chancellor's (VC) office.

The meeting was presided over by VC Professor Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury.

Science Faculty Dean Prof Dr Mohammed Shafiul Alam will lead the committee as its convenor.

Deputy Registrar Mohammed Yousuf is the member secretary while Law Faculty Dean Prof ABM Abu Noman, Chairman of the Public Administration Department Prof Dr Amir Mohammed Nasrullah and Assistant Proctor Liton Mitra are members of the committee.

Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury said, "We're trying to hold the CUCSU polls. So we've formed a committee to review the rules and regulations for holding the elections. We will take decisions based on the recommendations the committee makes in its report."

General students of CU, one of the largest public universities in the country, have none to represent them as the CUCSU has been non-existent for the last 28 years.

Consequently, they have very little scope for realising their different study-related demands in an organised way.

Besides, the general students also have to depend on the help of the political organisations to hold any cultural programme.
