Saima for replicating Peru's model in specialised educational instts in BD

Chairperson of Suchona Foundation Saima Wazed Hossain has taken an initiative to replicate the model of Peru's specialised educational institution- Centro Ann Sullivan Del Peru (CASP)- in all specialised educational institutions in Bangladesh in phases, reports BSS.

In this regard, Saima selected Proyash Institute of Special Education and Research, as an associate organisation to implement the model of Peru's CASP, said a press release.

Two visiting high officials of CASP - Dr Laliyana Mayo and Yemi Oyama - are now imparting training to the teachers, staff of Proyash and guardians of the special children at a five-day workshop which will end on July 20.

On July 16, the CASP officials visited the classrooms of Proyash and exchanged views with the teachers, students and guardians.

Later, they attended a coordination meeting at the Proyash Conference Room where Saima Wazed Hosssain, also the member of the World Health Organization's 25-member Expert Advisory Panel on mental health, was also present.

On July 17, a session on 'Empowerment of Family' was held highlighting the theme 'Treat me as any other person'.

Later in the evening, Saima hosted a dinner in honour of the CASP officials where Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, PM's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed, the Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh and other high civil and military officials were present.

At the dinner, Saima apprised all the guests about the implementation process of the CASP model.
