Salahuddin hints at movement to correct govt’s errors

FE REPORT | January 30, 2025 00:00:00

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has dropped a hint that his party might wage a movement soon aiming to put pressure on the interim government for holding national election.

He came up with the remarks while speaking at a discussion titled "July Mass Uprising: Media and Journalism" organised by Bangladesh Journalist Association at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Wednesday.

"It is natural that government may commit mistakes. It is not true that the interim government will take all decisions flawlessly," he said.

He said the journalists, political parties and democratic and social forces have the rights to know whether the country is moving rightly or wrongly.

"From that point of view, we on behalf of our party (BNP) are considering taking steps soon for correcting the faults of the government and also building democratic path of the country. You may say our step is a kind of movement against the government or criticism of the government," he said.

"A good virtue of the government is that it sometime corrects its faults upon criticism. As the government intends to correct its faults, we have to consider this a government of the people," he said.

"If we want to see this government succeed, then we have to make sufficient criticism of the present government for guiding it," he said.
