SCBA urges govt to appoint SC judges as per constitution

May 01, 2018 00:00:00

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has called for the quick appointment of apex court judges as per the Constitution, reports UNB.

President of the organisation Zainul Abedin made the call while speaking at a press conference at SCBA Bhaban in the city on Monday.

He also demanded formation of a policy for the appointment of High Court judges.

Reading out a written statement, he said, "We've heard that the government is planning to appoint judges to the Appellate Division and the High Court without the formulation of any draft policy."

"We also want the appointment of judges but that must be done as per section 95(2) of Constitution. If it takes time, then we demand that the judges be appointed considering the HC's verdict of April 13 in 2017," Zainul Abedin added.

SCBA general secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokon, vice-president Golam Rahman, among others, were present at the press conference.
