Seize tax records of ex-home minister Kamal, wife: Court

A Dhaka court has ordered authorities to seize the income tax records of former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who was recently sentenced to death for crimes against humanity, and his wife, Lutful Tahmina Khan, report agencies.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Monday after accepting a petition filed by Mohammad Zainul Abedin, a deputy director at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

In his petition, Zainul alleged Tahmina amassed assets worth more than Tk 150 million beyond her known sources of income.

While holding an important government position, Kamal 'abused his power' to directly assist Tahmina, the ACC alleged. He also carried out suspicious transactions worth over Tk 430 million through 10 bank accounts held in his name and in the name of a company in which he has partial ownership, according to the petition.
