August 19, 2024 00:00:00

Journalist Shafik Rehman has returned to Bangladesh after six long years, reports bdnews24.com.

He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Bangladesh Biman flight on Sunday.

Shafik, 89, was greeted by journalist leaders with flowers and applause at the airport. He left Bangladesh back in 2018.

While speaking to the media, the senior journalist said that Hasina had fled Bangladesh with her father.

"I have given them a new name. One of them is 'Bir Polatok Shreshtha', and the other is 'Bir Polatok Uttam."

Shafik also told the reporters that he wants Hasina to stay alive because he says it will be her punishment.

"I am against the death penalty. I don't want loss of life. No more violence, please love everyone. This is a revolutionary government; revolutionary laws are being implemented here. They must be brought to book following the laws. Read up on the history of Cuba. You will know."

He also added that everyone should get a job and the price of daily commodities should be reduced.

"Law and order must be maintained," said Shafik.

"Shaheed Zia's contributions can't be overstated. Those who have sacrificed their lives and suffered due to the movement must be rehabilitated," he added.
