Shahadat sworn in as CCC mayor

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 03: BNP leader Dr Shahadat Hossain has been sworn in as mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).

Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Land AF Hassan Ariff administered the oath at the Secretariat in the capital on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, AF Hassan Ariff said people of Chattogram have high expectation from the new mayor.

He noted that Rezaul Karim Chowdhury had served as mayor of Chattogram for nearly three and a half years. Shahadat Hossain will serve for the remaining term of the five-year period.

After taking the oath, the new mayor paid tribute to the mazar of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman. Later, he attended a party at Jonaki Community Centre adjacent to the BNP's central office in Nayapaltan area.

The election tribunal declared Dr. Shahadat Hossain as the new mayor of CCC on Oct 1, 2024.

Earlier, he had filed a case against the then chief election commissioner (CEC), the then mayor Rejaul Karim Chowdhury, secretary of the EC, returning officer and other mayoral candidates on charges of rigging the CCC polls that was held on January 27 in 2021.
