Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Dhaka University (DU) unit General Secretary SM Farhad on Thursday said there is no documented evidence on the allegations of cutting tendons against the organisation.
Mentioning that Shibir will announce its full fledged committee very soon, Farhad said, "We have revealed our president and secretary and very soon we will announce our full committee. We just need a little more time."
"If anyone search on Google, they will find that all tendon-cutting crimes are associated with the Chhatra League," he added, while speaking at a press conference at the DU TSC.
The spokesman of the student wing of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was responding to a question of a journalist on allegations regarding the slicing of tendons as an act of intimidating opponents.
When asked why Shibir has been practicing politics in secret in recent years, he said, "Islami Chhatra Shibir operated openly until 2009. Even after that, wherever possible, The organisation conducted activities openly."
He said it is not logical for journalists to ask questions on the identities of Shibir men at a time when the appropriate question would be about asking for the reasons behind the denial of justice for the murders of Shibir activists.
He added that hundreds of Shibir leaders are still missing, several members of their previous committees were killed in crossfire, and many others were too afraid to reveal their identities.
When asked about whether Shibir had any contribution in the nine-point demand during the July-August Anti Discrimination Movement, he said, "The movement was for all people. Activists from various parties joined it setting aside their affiliations."
"Shibir also participated with its resources. Taking credit for any plans implemented goes against the spirit of the movement."
"Every despicable act carried out by Chhatra League in establishing fascism must be held accountable. We believe the students will take legal steps. If anyone needs legal assistance, Shibir will provide it."
Addressing the ban the Environment Council imposed on Shibir at DU, he said, "According to the 1973 ordinance of DU, only the Syndicate, Senate, and Academic Council have the authority in this regard," Farhad added.
