Shrine vandalised at night in Thakurgaon

A shrine in Thakurgaon town has reportedly been vandalised under the cover of darkness, prompting tensions among local residents and devotees, report agencies.

The shrine, known as the Hazrat Baba Shah Satyapir Mazar, was damaged at some point on Friday night in the Satyapir Bridge area of the town, according to Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station chief (OC) Monir Hossain.

The shrine is located in front of the headquarters of the Thakurgaon sector of the BGB.

Although the shrine was vandalised, no theft took place there. The matter is being investigated with due seriousness, the OC said.

The damage was discovered on Saturday morning when local residents and devotees visited the site. As news spread, large numbers of followers gathered at the shrine. Devotees condemned the vandalism and called for those responsible to be identified and brought to justice.
