Six activists of BCL, AL affiliates arrested

The Detective Branch (DB) police arrested one Awami League (AL) leader and five other leaders from its associate bodies during separate raids in the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Police Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman disclosed the matter to the media on Saturday.

The arrestees are: Ashraful Islam Nayeem, senior organising secretary of Chhatra League of Pallabi, Mirpur; Md Ripon Hossain Fahim, general secretary of Jatrabari Chhatra League; Sheikh Md Sohel, vice-president of Sramik League of ward no.59 of Dhaka South City Corporation; Md Sohel Rana, relief and disaster affairs secretary of Swechchasebak League of Badda area; Mohammad Yamin, organising secretary of Chhatra League of ward no. 37 of Badda area; and Abul Bashar Khan, vice-president of ward no.12 Awami League.

DMP's Deputy Police Comissioner Rahman said that Ashraful was arrested from Baunia area under Pallabi Police Station of the city on Friday.

A team of DMP cyber cell arrested Md Ripon from the city's Jatrabari on the same day. Also on Friday, Wari zone DB police arrested Sheikh Md Sohel from Mohammadpur.
