Speaker leaves for Qatar to convey PM's condolences

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has left Dhaka for Qatar to convey a condolence message from the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman following the demise of the Gulf nation's former emir, report agencies.

The Parliament Secretariat said on Tuesday that the speaker departed from Shahjalal International Airport at 11:20am on Tuesday.

During the visit, he will hold a courtesy meeting with current Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on behalf of Tarique Rahman over the death of former emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, widely regarded as the architect of modern Qatar.

Hafiz Uddin is scheduled to return home on Jul 16.
