Samajtantrik Sramik Front (SSF) staged on Saturday a demonstration in front of the Jatiya Press Club demanding the minimum wage for the readymade garment (RMG) workers at Tk 16,000, reports UNB.
Fixing the minimum wage at Tk 8,000 is a mockery to the RMG workers who are the main driving source of the country's economy, claimed the leaders of the organisation.
It is not acceptable at all that the workers of the government factories will get Tk 17,812 as their wage while the RMG workers will get Tk 8,000, they said.
They also demanded a 'democratic' labour law during the programme, which was presided over by SLF central committee President Abdur Razzak.
Among others, General Secretary of SLF Khalekuzzaman Ratan, President of Garments Workers Front Ahsan Habib Bulbul and its General Secretary Selim Mahmud spoke at the programme.
