DUCSU election

SSF echoes demand for setting up polling centres outside halls

Left-leaning student orgnisation Socialist Students' Front (SSF) has demanded setting up polling centres outside the residential halls to hold elections to the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections in a free and fair manner.

The organisation marched with a procession which started from Modhur Canteen at 12:00 pm to press home their demands and paraded several streets on the campus on Tuesday.

They also demanded that the authorities concerned set up polling centres at the academic building so that the university administration and other elections watchdogs can properly monitor the election.

Dhaka University (DU) unit president Salman Siddique and its vice president Sadiqul Islam and general secretary Progoti Bormon Toma spoke at a rally after the procession. They alleged students residing in halls are being forced to join the programmes drawn up by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

They also said DUCSU polls did not take place in 28 years due to indifference of the successive university administrations and governments in order to maintain dominance of the ruling party student front on the campus.
