Statement from pro-AL teachers sparks controversy at DU

A statement issued by a group of Dhaka University teachers condemning recent incidents of mob violence across the country has sparked a new controversy on campus.

The statement, released on Wednesday, included the names of 71 teachers, who all are affiliated with pro-Awami League teachers' panel "Neel Dal".

The teachers expressed concern over the rise in mob violence, claiming that Bangladesh has increasingly became a "Mob-er Mulluk" (mob's empire) in recent months.

They alleged that numerous people have already fallen victim to mob justice and called for the restoration of equality, justice, and the rule of law through the prevention of such violence.

However, the statement drew criticism from several groups, with some accusing the Neel Dal teachers of hypocrisy. Critics argued that these teachers, now preaching morality, remained silent during the autocratic regime, marked by injustice and repression.
