February 25, 2026 00:00:00

Md Aminul Islam, the newly-appointed Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), on Tuesday said strict legal action will be taken if anyone associated with the tribunal is found involved in corruption, reports BSS.

He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists at his office.

The Chief Prosecutor said, "During my tenure, if I, any prosecutor, or anyone associated with the tribunal is involved in corruption, strict legal measures will be taken. We will prove that this tribunal is completely corruption-free and will ensure justice in line with international standards."

"The tribunal would be run strictly in accordance with the law, with enhanced dynamism and transparency," he said, adding that necessary steps will also be taken to ensure speedy disposal of cases in line with the aspirations of the July Mass Uprising.

The government on February 23 appointed Md Aminul Islam as ICT Chief Prosecutor, granting him the status, rank and privileges of the Attorney General of Bangladesh.

The Solicitor Wing of the Law and Justice Division issued a gazette notification in this regard and also cancelled the appointment of Advocate Muhammad Tajul Islam as the ICT Chief Prosecutor.
