Swechchhasebak Dal leader injured after 'assault' in Rangpur police station

A leader of the Jatiatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, the volunteer wing of the BNP, has been hospitalised after allegedly being beaten inside Rangpur's Kotwali Police Station, reports bdnews24.com.

The allegations triggered an internal investigation and the withdrawal of the police station chief (OC) and four other personnel, according to officers.

Kotwali Police chief Azad Rahman denied the allegations while Rangpur Metropolitan Police formed a committee to investigate the incident.

District Swechchhasebak Dal Member Secretary Zakaria Hossain said Rakibul Islam, member secretary of the organisation's Sadar upazila unit, was allegedly assaulted inside the police station around 9:30pm on Wednesday. He was later admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
