SYLHET, May 12 (UNB): The intern doctors at Sylhet Women's Medical College Hospital (SWMC) staged a demonstration demanding the immediate arrest of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader over his rape threat to one of their fellows.

They brought out a procession from the medical college premises that ended at the same place and formed a human chain after marching to Chowhatta Point of the city on Sunday noon.

Dr Badrul Hossain Rokon, president of Bangladesh Medical Association in Sylhet, demanded the arrest of the BCL leader within 24 hours, expressing his solidarity with the demand.

Earlier on Thursday, BCL leader Sarwar Hossain threatened a SWMC intern with rape and murder and a video of the incident went viral on social media. Sarwar is the former vice-president of the student front's Sylhet district unit.

SWMC registrar Ishfaq Zaman recorded a general diary with Kotwali thana in this regard on Saturday noon.

The general diary will be taken as a case after primary investigation if involvement of the BCL leader is found, police said.
