TIB urges govt to submit documents on Rohingya atrocities to ICC

May 30, 2018 00:00:00

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) urged on Tuesday the government to submit its documents of crime against humanity against Rohingyas in Myanmanr to International Criminal Court (ICC), reports UNB.

TIB said Bangladesh government's observation along with detailed information and documents over atrocities and killings perpetuated by Myanmar government and military should be sent to ICC.

In a statement, TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, ICC's initiative to investigate and prosecute the crime of killing and deporting Rohingyas is a ray of hope.

Undoubtedly Bangladesh will gear up the process through its unambiguous stand, he added.

"It will be a significant step for Bangladesh to send its observation to ICC."

"Also, ethically, Bangladesh can play this role being a member of state to the ICC as part of the responsibility to bring mass killing under the jurisdiction", said Dr Iftekharuzzaman.

According to TIB, Bangladesh's observation will increase the possibility of justice for the human rights violations against Rohingyas by Myanmar military. And it will also help create international pressure on Myanmar and the countries that have their blessings to it. TIB added.

Recently the Pre-Trial Chamber of ICC invited Bangladesh authorities to submit its observation to the court's exercise of territorial jurisdiction over the deportation of members of the Rohingya people from Myanmar into Bangladesh including related documents on this issue by June 11.
