A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on Awami League presidium member and former minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya and his wife Pervin Chowdhury over graft allegations, reports BSS.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on Thursday, allowing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC in its plea said the former minister has allegedly amassed huge illegal wealth in his and his family members' names by taking commissions from local contractors, selling party posts and nominations, embezzling government funds and laundered the money abroad.
"The commission has already formed a three-member committee to investigate the allegations. During its primary investigation, the committee found that Maya and his wife are trying to flee the country to evade justice. So, travel ban should be imposed on them," the ACC plea said.
Meanwhile, another Dhaka court imposed a travel ban on Mohammad Shafeenul Islam, a former major general in the Bangladesh Army and former Director General (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and his wife Shoma Islam, in a graft case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order following a petition filed by Sabikun Nahar, deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the petition, Shafeenul and his wife were found involved in accumulating illegal wealth through corruption and embezzling money after misusing power.
Major General Md Shafeenul joined as the Director General of BGB on March 28, 2018.
