A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former member of parliament (MP) from Dinajpur-3 constituency Iqbalur Rahim and his wife Nadira Sultana Mukti over graft allegations, reports BSS.

Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court passed the orders on Thursday, allowing two separate pleas filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the petition filed against Iqbalur Rahim, He is alleged to have abused his power and misappropriated government funds and accumulated assets worth Tk 122.2 million through extortion, tender manipulation, irregularities and corruption.

It further stated that around Tk 350 million was transferred, moved and converted through 24 bank accounts under his name and in the names of various entities.

A case was filed against him under the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Act, which is currently under investigation. The petition stated that, in the interest of probe, Iqbalur Rahim's foreign travel needs to be restricted.

In the petition concerning Nadira Sultana Mukti, it was stated that a portion of the illegally accumulated wealth of Iqbalur Rahim was shown under her ownership with the dishonest intention of legalising it.

Through collusion, she allegedly acquired and possessed Taka 74.82 lakh in illegal assets.
