Tuku, Joy, Sohail, Ahmed, Saikat remanded for three more days

Former deputy speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, former deputy minister of sport Arif Khan Joy, ex-chairman of Chittagong Port (retired) Rear Admiral Mohammed Sohail, Awami League Organising Secretary Ahmad Hossain and Dhaka University Chhatra League General Secretary Tanvir Khan Saikat have been remanded for three days in separate cases in connection with violence over the quota reform movement, reports bdnews24.com.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mainul Islam issued the orders around 7:00am on Sunday after hearing the petitions.
The suspects were brought to the court lock-up around 6:00 am amid tight security.
Police Inspector Asaduzzaman read out the remand appeal, said court office assistant Toufiqul Islam. Legal counsels of the suspects appealed to scrap the remand orders and sought bail for them. The judge heard the case for 15 minutes and issued the orders.
