Two more testify in Abhijit murder case

Two more persons have testified in the case lodged over the murder of blogger and writer Abhijit Roy, reports BSS.

Nur Mohammad Talukder and Syed Abul Kalam gave deposition in the court of Judge Majibur Rahman of the Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal in Dhaka.

They were then cross-examined by the defence lawyer. The court fixed November 25 for the next testimony.

A total of 24 witnesses have testified so far in the case.

According to the case, blogger and writer Abhijit Roy was hacked and injured by terrorists near Suhrawardy Udyan in the TSC area of Dhaka University on February 26, 2015 around 9:15 pm.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital where he died around 10:30 pm.

On February 26, Abhijit's father, prominent educationist Ajay Roy, filed a murder case with Shahbagh thana.

On March 13, 2019, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari filed a charge sheet against the six in the court. A total of 34 people were made witnesses in the case.

On April 11, 2019, Dhaka Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal Judge Majibur Rahman accepted the charge sheet against the six accused.

The accused in the case are Major (dismissed) Syed Mohammad Ziaul Haque alias Zia, Mozammel Hussain alias Simon (organisational name Shahriar), Abu Siddique Sohail alias Shakib alias Sajid alias Shahab, Akram Hossain alias Abir, Md Arafat Rahman and Shafiur Rahman Farabi.
