GAZIPUR, Mar 20 (BSS): President M Abdul Hamid on Tuesday urged the students to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War and independence and to think always about the development of society as well as the country alongside their personal progress.
The President also called upon the students to give the highest priority to national interest and not to compromise with injustice, untruth and corruption.
"Never bow down to any injustice and untruth . . . Always try to uphold the dignity of your certificates by rendering proper services with honesty, sincerity and patriotism," he told the graduating students at second convocation of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur, in the afternoon.
"Uphold the spirit of the Liberation War and independence and always think about the development of society as well as the country alongside your personal progress," the President, also the chancellor of the DUET, told the new graduates.
President Hamid urged all concerned to place importance on offsetting the adverse impacts of climate change and ensuring the country's continued advancement by acquiring world-standard knowledge and wisdom to compete in the global arena.
"Bear in mind that we have to be economically self-reliant to uphold our dignity," he advised the students and said that the young engineers should utilise their creative thoughts and acquired knowledge for this.
Noting that the incumbent government is giving importance to expansion of the overall academic activities of universities, including the research works, President Hamid also asked the authorities concerned to reach the results of research and new invention to the doorsteps of the common people as well.
The President asked the university teachers and students to contribute significantly to materialise the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh in line with the "Vision-2021 and Vision-2041" envisaged by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Terming Bangladesh a role model of development across the globe as it has put a sign of tremendous development in all sides of socio-economic sector, the President said the country in the meantime attained the status of a developing country.
