Culture Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor on Friday said conscious citizens and historians will have to play the main role to restore and rediscover the lost history of the 1971 Liberation War, reports UNB.

The minister said this while addressing the inaugural function of "Walking Museum: University of Dhaka in 1971 and Genocide" organised by the Center for Genocide Studies at the banyan tree (Battala) on the campus.

"We have to discover history newly. It is necessary to re-discover the contribution of the students, teachers, and employees of Dhaka University during the Liberation War. The lost history will have to be restored and rediscovered. This is very important for the true history. Conscious citizens and historians can play the vital role in this project," the culture affairs minister said.

The history of the Liberation War and sacrifice of the Bengali nation cannot be exemplified only in a frame or canvas. Huge memories and incidents are there around the country, he further said.

Recalling DUC teachers and students' sacrifices during the war of liberation, the minister said the history is the pride for the university as it was the centre of all movements during the war.

Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Nasreen Ahmed presided over the function while director of Center for Genocide Studies Professor Dr Imtiaz Ahmed delivered the welcome speech.
