A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Thursday seeking Tk 100 million compensation for the family of Dhaka Residential Model College student Nayeemul Abrar Rahat, reports UNB.

The petition sought directives from the HC in collecting the compensation money from the Prothom Alo authorities.

Secretaries to Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Information and Education ministries, Power Development Board (PDB), Dhaka Electric Supply Company Ltd. (DESCO), Dhaka Electric Supply Authority (DESA), publisher, editor of Daily Prothom Alo; and editor of Prothom Alo's youth magazine Kishor Alo were made respondents in the writ.

Lawyer Faizur Rahman, who filed the petition on behalf of the deceased's family, also urged the HC to issue directives to the other defendants to take action against Prothom Alo.

The petition was filed with the permission of a High Court bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman, the lawyer said, adding it will be placed before the bench on Sunday for hearing.

Nayeemul Abrar, a ninth grader, died after being electrocuted behind the stage at an event organised by KishorAlo, a publication of Prothom Alo for the young readers, at Dhaka Residential Model College on November 01.
