PANCHAGARH, Aug 20 (UNB): A young man has died in police custody in Debiganj Police Station.

While police claimed that Hasanur Rahman Milon, 20, son of Habibor Rahman of Thanapara in Debiganj upazila, committed suicide, family members alleged that police killed him in a planned way.

Locals said Milon, a mason, had an altercation with his elder brother Hasibul Islam on Sunday night over his love affairs with the former's sister-in-law.

Later, Hasibul informed the matter to police who took Milon under their custody.

When Milon's two sisters went to Debiganj Police Station on Monday morning to meet him, they found him hanging in a toilet.

Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said they arrested Milon along with 60 grams of hemp on Sunday night. "When I went to the district town to attend a meeting on the law and order, I was informed that Milon committed suicide."

However, the victim's father alleged that his son was killed in a planned way as he had an altercation with sub-inspector Kalam over catching fish in the Karatoa River several days ago.

As soon as the death news spread around, locals put up a barricade on Debiganj intersection and staged demonstrations protesting the incident.
