Bangladesh is expected to receive donor funding in excess of US$ US$ 2.0 billion in the current fiscal year (FY), official sources said.
"An estimated $ 2.14 billion worth of foreign assistance is to be available for the current fiscal," a senior Economic Relations Division (ERD) official said, adding that it would be the highest ever overseas support for Bangladesh.
Foreign donors have already pledged assistance amounting to around $ 3.0 billion for Bangladesh for the FY 2008-09, the official said.
He further said, "Donors and development partners have committed the highest ever volume of assistance for the current fiscal."
The country's availability of foreign aid also marked a significant rise in the last fiscal as the donors pumped increased volume of support into various projects, especially for post-Sidr rehabilitation purposes.
Citing figures, the ERD official said Bangladesh received foreign assistance to the tune of $ 2.08 billion in the FY 2007-08.
On the other hand, development partners and donors pledged $ 2.7 billion worth of assistance for Bangladesh in the last fiscal, the official noted.
