$500m remittance in 11 days of April

The country has received remittance amounting to about US$ 500 million in the first 11 days of the current month.
According to a Bangladesh Bank statement, non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) living abroad sent a total of US$ 495.86 million from April 1-11 of the current year.
Of this, $160.63 million came into the country in the first four days from April 1 while the remaining $335.23 flowed into the country between the days in April 5-11.
Of the US$ 495.86, remittance of $160.57 came into the country through four state-owned commercial banks while specialised banks brought only $7.15 million, statistics showed, according to a news agency.
The most significant portion of remittance entered the country through private banking channels. The 39 private commercial banks brought $323.29 million of whom Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL) played the leading role by bringing $126.44 million alone.
The IBBL was followed by National Bank ($23.48 million), Pubali Bank ($17.37 million) and Bank Asia (14.56 million). Nine foreign banks operating branches in Bangladesh brought $4.85 million.
